Planning: Logo for our company - Sasha Sounds.

Planning: So far on our music video.

Planning: What I have done today.

Today we have been working on colour correction for our music video. We have decided to give each shot a 'cool' look as this emphasised and added to the grungy effect. The 'cool' effect brings out the greens and blues in the shots, I think this is perfect as most of our shots are outside.

On top of the 'cool' effect that we have added I have then used the 'colour adjustment' and adjusted the exposure and saturation, this means that the colours can be changed to fit the location and to make the shot look normal, therefore some shots aren't too over exposed and they fit well and flow with the rest of the video.

On some shots there were certain areas that we either too bright, too dark, or some bits in the shot looked out of place because of the 'cool' effect therefore I added a 'mask' this allowed me to pick out certain areas that I wanted to change the colour of, I could then choose to adjust either the inside or outside of the mask. This was a very useful tool and I used it in a range of places in our video.

Planning: Digipak.

Planning: Third Draft.

Planning: Second draft.

Planning: Advert 1st daft.

This is the image we have used for the Advert. Before photoshopping this, the car in the background was visible, it is an orange car and the registration was very noticeable. We decided to photoshop the car out so that the band look as they are stood in the light. I think it looks more professional like this.

What have I learnt from using Final Cut Pro X?

Before now, I had never used Final Cut Pro X. This has been completely new to me and I have learnt everything from scratch. When we first began using this program I could not convince myself that I would ever get the hang of using it.
Since using it so much I am much more familiar with how to do a range of things such as;
- Blade (Cut a shot to the desired length)
- Add things to the timeline (such as shots)
- Detach and attach audio (from videos)
- turn audio up or down
- markers (these are very useful when lining up shots with the song)

I am continuously learning new things within each lesson, and I am thoroughly enjoying it.

Planning: fliming yesterday.

Yesterday my group and I filmed with Courtney and Chris at the tunnel. I think this shoot went really well, we collected a range of shots that I think would be useful. Although, the one thing that did not go to plan was lighting, unfortunately we did not arrive at our location in time for the lighting through the tunnel to be correct. We over came this problem the best we could by using torches for light.

Planning: Photo's for our Digipak

From the photos we took of Southbank I think that this is one we would definitely consider using for the cover of our Digipak.
The darkness adds a sense of mystery and the light coming from behind them offers a slight Sci-fi effect. I really like this image and if I saw this on a shelf I would consider buying it after looking to see what kind of music they offer.
I think the way that the band are positioned makes them seem powerful. The fact you cant see their faces and only their silhouettes emphasises the mystery.

Research: Looking at Digipaks

I like this Digipak cover as Miley Cyrus is following convention and looking directly into camera. The fact she is showing her stomach adds a sense of voyeurism. I think the audience for this would be both male and female although, it would be more for girls. As well liking her music I think that the way in which Miley is positioned may persuade some people to buy it for example, the pouting and the way she holds her trousers.

Miley, here is dressed completely in leather this goes well with the name 'Can't be tamed' emphasising the voyeuristic style they have achieved.

I do not like this Digipak as I feel that it is too simplistic. On the other hand, this may be something that someone else loves.
I think that the crown is trying to represent something royal, or that who ever this belongs to they are quite important.
The heart with the two doves either side represent love and hope, but the fact that the heart is melting may suggest a lack of confidence. This cover suggests that the music focuses on heartbreak. Maybe meaning it has a slower sound.

I live this cover as its quite unusual compared to the ones I have previously looked at, like the way that Lily Allen is sat on top of the letters making her look small, this contrasts with the way she is positioned as the way she is stretching out makes it look as if she is trying to make her self look bigger.
I like the colours in this cover as they are subtle. They aren't too extreme and although they are bright, they lay nicely with each other.
This cover still follows convention as the singer is looking into the camera.

Target Audience Research - Qualitative Focus Group.

We started creating our music video on Final Cut Pro X, by adding, synchronising and cutting the clips we filmed. The video at this moment in time is not fully finished, however we wanted to gain some further audience feedback so we could find out what other people thought we could do to improve the music video. We asked a group of teenagers aged between 16 and 17, to help us gain a better insight. The questions we asked were: What do you think of the shots used? Is there anything that you think we can improve on? There responses we got back were: 17 year old female: Likes the night shots and how we used the car headlights as lights to make the band glow, they thought these were some of the most effective shots. 16 year old male: Likes the cuts back to the group this helps to develop the narrative. This person also liked the beginning where one band member is laid in bed. He liked how the band member pressed the alarm clock to turn it off because it linked together lyrics and visuals. This comment was made by another student in the group, along with the night shots being affective as well.

Research: What is the opinion on music videos and where to watch them of people aged 17-19

Filming on monday.

Unfortunately the filming on Monday was cancelled last minute due to one band member arriving 1 hour late to the shoot.
The lighting at the time we had originally planned on filming was perfect for what we wanted, therefore when one band member arrived an hour late our lighting had completelly gone and the fog was too heavy to film in.

We have now planned on filming for the chorus tomorrow at 6 o'clock. The location for this shoot will be at Alex's barn since it is not available for us to use. All bandd members have stated that they can deffinitely attend.

Planning: filming

The next time my group and I are filming will be on monday, we have planned to run through the chorus and the second verse.

Research: how do people aged 17-20 consume music videos?

I have recently done some research into how people aged 17-20 consume music videos and what they believe make a good music video.

I asked each person ''If you wanted to watch a music video where woulld you go to do so? E.g. a particular app, you may name more than one. Also, what do you believe makes a good music video?''

Planning: filming yesterday.

Yesterday morning my group an I were able to film the parts we missed from Courtney and Chris, we collected a range of different angles therefore when it come to editing I believe it will make that verse more gripping to watch. Unfortunately one shot we took we did not get as the record button was not pressed, this is something we will certainly look out for in the future when it comes to filming. The shot that we lost can easily be filmed again.

Yesterday night we were able to collect the shots we need for the chorus. Although obtaining the shots was a great challenge due to the terrible weather, throughout the filming it rained continuously - we were able to keep the camera and tripod dry buy using an umbrella.
Shane and I discussed where to place each band member so that they we each seen, we also took it in turns when it came too filming.

Planning: filming

Unfortunately my group and I were unable to film on Monday as not all band members were able to attend, therefore we have planned to film tonight instead, this is the location we will use;

Furthur up from where this photo was taken is a stone platform that we are able to put the drum
kit onto, this is very useful as if any cars/tractors come down here the drumkit will not need to be moved, this will also look good when it comes to different angles.
When we begin to lose our lighting we agreed that it would be an interesting idea to use the headlights from Tom's (the drummer) car, this would give a unique effect and would create shadows.

The filming tonight will begin at 5:15 as this is the earliest we can start.

The plan for tonight is to record for the chorus, we are going to try our hardest to collect a wide range of shots that we could use throughtout the video.
All band members know what we are going through, they know what they are wearing and what they are required to bring.

Unfortunateely the 'barn' location that we were orinally going to use for parts of the chorus is now unavailable, therefore my group and I need to decide on a another location that is suitable and will fit what we originally planned.

Planning: Filming on monday.

Tonight I have planned with Southband for a day of filming on Monday. The filming will start during the afternoon as one band member cannot attend it earlier due to being away.

We have planned on filming in my friends barn. This location will be perfect to make it look as if the band are performing to an audience.

The lighting will be low key, this is because it is not possible to have high key lighting due to only one entrance that will not bring in much light. I think that the Low key lighting will be good as it may make it seem more real, the darker tones will emphasise the pop punk theme, I also think that the way the light may create shadows on and around the band, may add at a touch of voyerism if we include close up shots of band members faces.

I will be visiting the barn before Monday to make sure that the area is safe for the band to play, to make sure that the building is safe for the band to be inside, and that there is nothing that they can harm themselves on or fall over whilst performing.

Planning: filming last friday

On friday my group and I filmed more for the first verse of the music video. We focused on trying to film courtney and Chris's part where Courtney walks towards Chris with the band in the backround.

For the first verse, this is what we have planned and filmed so far;

Alarm clock rings another day in hell begins (clip of a band member turning off their alarm and getting out of bed)
I'm going out of my mind, until she walks in (close up of the lead singers face, then the camera cuts to courtney walking past the band towards Chris)
They say love is blind, but my vision is fine (close up of Connors face)
Angels sing when I look in her eyes.. (close up of the lead singers face which cuts to a extreme close up of courtney face)

I think that overall the filming on Friday went well, but I wish that we could have filmed more than what we did, the reason we did not film as much as we could was due to the weather.

Target Audience Profile.

The target audience for our music video will be aged around 16-20.
They are likely to prefer indie pop punk or pop rock music, as appose to just pop or anything with a lighter sound.
The TA will probably consume their current music through ITunes and/or YouTube.

Our video will appeal to both males and females since it contains both genders. The TA may be middle class, with good jobs and average grades - they may also come from challenging backgrounds, and listen to this music as an escape from their everyday life.
The audience, I believe may live in quite rural areas.

Planning: videoing

Tonight at 5 o'clock we have planned to video at this location.

This is the location we filmed at on Wednesday but unfortunately the weather suddenly turned and we had to pack up all our equipment. We have planned to film Courtney and Chris's part tonight with the band playing behind them, we will take two cameras therefore we can film from a range of angles.

Research: Beyonce's music video and how it is Voyeuristic.

This is ''Halo'' by Beyoncé. This video shows a great amount of Voyeurism which is emphasised by slow motioned shots accompanied by certain lyrics.

The video begins with a close up of Beyoncé's face which then cuts to an over-the-shoulder shot to show what she is smiling at, in this shot we see her boyfriend laid in bed asleep, the camera then cuts back to Beyoncé's face to show a reaction shot.

Although in this shot Beyoncé looks happy, in the next shot we see Beyoncé stood with her boyfriend behind her, they both look unhappy or concerned but are still very close to each other, suggesting love - this seems to be a clip of what has happened on a previous day.

Beyoncé's makeup is very natural and plain, this emphasises her natural beauty. So far the lyrics have not began therefore we (as an audience) have to imagine what they are feeling or thinking and guess what we think has happened.

The camera uses the bright light from the window accompanied by the beat of the music starting to slowly move to the next shot of Beyoncé stood alone against a wall. Once the camera cuts back to them both stood together Beyoncé continues to look down, the camera then cuts to show what Beyoncé is looking at and it shows their hands, holding each other and the person stood behind her has his arms wrapped around Beyoncé.

As the camera cuts to their faces Beyoncé begins to still, whilst continuing to stay in her role.

I have noticed that the way Beyoncé moves her head and body, emphasises the voyeurism in the video as it makes her look enticing.
In this video the camera cuts on the beat, and the shots stay quite slow. I am starting to think that this video is portraying a break up.
The shots I have seen have been handheld but still quite still, this suggests their movement and how they are standing.

In the next shot the camera slightly and slowly pans in a dance room, the shot then cuts to a high angle shot showing Beyoncé ready to practice in the room, this is an over-the-shoulder shot showing that her boyfriend is watching without her knowing, this may suggest a lack of trust on his side of their relationship or that he wants to be closer to her.
As the camera pan from around a wall, the close up of Beyoncé re-adjusting her outfit, and out of breath shows she still cares about her appearance even when she is alone, also the steadiness of the camera contrasts with how she is portrayed as tired.

The camera next cuts back to the couple stood together for  0:05 seconds then cuts back to a handheld camera of Beyoncé moving her head round, supposedly stretching her neck, I think that the dancing portrayed could be a way of showing physically how Beyoncé feels in her relationship.

The camera next cuts to a sequence of 3 slightly quicker shots of the couple in very bright lighting, this makes the shots look very over exposed and pale. On the last of these three shots Beyoncé looks into camera for only a second, this emphasised the voyeurism as it teases with audience making her look captivating.

After the three brighter shots, it then cuts to a shot with high key lighting, this shot is again handheld and shows a close up of Beyoncé and her boyfriends hands together, but interestingly the camera is not focused on their hands, which are centre framed, it is focused on Beyoncé's face, I think that this is to capture her emotion in that moment. The camera is showing what the man can see, and what he is focused on, therefore we can see that although they are holding each others hands, he is not focused on that he is focused more on Beyoncé's face, whereas she is smiling at their hands.
A high angle shot follows this showing the couple laid top and tale on a white sofa, this shot contrasts with the last one as they no longer look happy with each other, something may have happened between the two shots that we could not see. The lyric ''you're everything I need and more'' is quite a reassuring sentence therefore you would expect them to look happy but instead the do not.

The two shots that follow this are close up, over-the-shoulder shot of Beyoncé's face, although she is still singing it looks as if she is in a conversation, and the lyrics emphasise that she is trying to reassure her boyfriend of something ''Baby! I can feel your halo''

The camera cuts then to a shot of Beyoncé's boyfriend watching her from a high angle and smiling, this could suggest he's proud of her. A medium close up of her face and hips as the camera pans, suggests what he is looking at. It also again emphasises voyeurism and points out particular parts of Beyoncé's body making her look more attractive. We then get a shot-reverse-shot of Beyoncé and her boyfriend smiling at each other with a handheld camera.

We then get another shot-reverse-shot of the couple in bed together, they each smile into camera when it is facing them to make it look as if they are smiling at the other person.

The next 4 shots I think are a montage of events, it also shows more of what has happened in the locations that have been previously used e.g. playing with a puppy on the white sofa.

The next few shots we see are 0:04 second shots of different close ups, some are of Beyoncé and some her boyfriend dressing into the suit he wears in the shot of him watching Beyoncé in the dance room. The shots we see now are quite fast shots, the smiles on their faces suggest they are no longer unhappy.

I think that they over exposed light emphasises the fact that this is what Beyoncé is thinking about at the beginning of the video, the lighter shots make it look dream-like.

We then interestingly see a shot of Beyoncé wearing wedding dress underwater. This shot shows Beyoncé floating upwards in the bright blue water, this may suggest a sense of freedom or it may suggest that there is an underlining problem in their relationship and Beyoncé feels as if she cannot breathe. Just after this clip a shot of the couple in bed together then leads on to another shot of Beyoncé in the water, whereas the first clip of Beyoncé was 0:05 seconds this clip was 0:02 seconds, the movements that take place under the water match what Beyoncé does in the dance room, maybe she was planning for this?

The final shot in this music video is 0:42 seconds of an extreme close up of the couple, the man is on top of Beyoncé and they are not kissing but slightly touching their faces together, this emphasises voyeurism as it projects what they are feeling may be sexual.

The first and last shots we see in this video contrast as in the first shot we see Beyoncé on her own watching her boyfriend sleep, whilst in the last shot we see the couple together in an extreme close up. This could suggest that through time and throughout the video, their relationship has grown stronger and they have become closer.

How has this video influenced my planning and creativity?

What have I learnt?
- costumes change but they do not have to completely different e.g. colours.
- shots can cut slightly off-beat.
- handheld shots, when used in the right place fit well.
- you can use bright lighting to move from one shot to another.
- emotions need to be exaggerated so it gets across right for the audience.

From this video I have realised how voyeurism is used and how certain things such as body movement, emphasise this feeling.
To create Voyeurism within our video we will experiment with body language, e.g. the way each person looks at Courtney or into the camera, and the way that the lead singer maybe holds the microphone.

Planning: Photos of the locations we may use.

These are locations that we are going to use for our music video.

What happened in our photoshoot?

For our photo shoot on Wednesday, I do not believe it went as well as it could. Due to the bad weather we had to stop early, just as we wanted to move on with out recording e.g. record Courtney and Chris's part it started to rain very heavily, therefore we had to pack away.

Because of this we have moved our recording day to this Friday, we will try and get as much done as we can and record more than the did yesterday.

Overall yesterday we did a full run through of the song, and recorded it.

Rough Cut of Emily Music video

Planning: Recording for the first verse.

We are currently planning to record the first verse of our song on Wednesday the 14th of October at 5 O'clock. We will record for the lines;

''I'm going out of my mind, until she walks in. They say love is blind, but my visions is fine, angels sing when I look in her eyes''

Our whole group will be there e.g. Myself, Hannah and Shane. Our two actors Chris and Courtney will be there also the band will be there (Liam, Connor, Tom, Matt)

The location of this shoot will be St. Helens road in Brigg, at first we wanted the band to be playing on the road, but we decided this would not work as if a car came we would not be able to continuously move the drum kit back and forth, therefore the band will now play on a patch of grass outside Courtney's house, this will be safer for everyone.

The lighting for this shoot will be high key as it is natural.

The props we will use;
Mic + Mic stand.
Bass guitar.
Electric guitar.
Acoustic guitar.
Drum kit + Drum sticks.

Everyone included in this scene will be in casual clothes e.g. jeans, t-shirts, checkered shirts. Courtney's hair will be straightened, and she will not be wearing a lot of makeup, we will put makeup on her to make her look casual.

Script.

''I'm going put of my mind'' - Close up of lead singers face.
''Until she walks in'' - Camera pans to show courtney walking up the street. Camera cuts to a different angle, courtney still walking but this time it shows the band behind her performing.
''They say, love is blind'' - Wide shot of the band performing as the camera pans.
''but my vision is fine'' - medium closeup of either Connor or Liam (maybe hand held)
''Angels sing'' - Camera zooms on courtney as she walks into camera. chris comes into the shot from behind the camera.
''When I look in her eyes''  close up of Courtney smiling at Chris, camera pans as they walk away.

Plans for Courtney and Chris's outfit.

Planning: Courtney and chris's outfit.

Name Change!

The band have decided to change their name, due to a recent disagreement. They have decided to change their name from Peaceful Panic to Southbank.

This will affect how my group and I see the band, for example we will now be thinking of different fonts to use. When the band was called Peaceful Panic, we pictured using fonts such as 'Agency FB' or 'Aldine401 BT' whereas now we may consider fonts such as 'Amhurst SF'

Planning: Story board from their first performance (Group Post)
